Analysis Of Trifles By Susan Glaspell - 804 Words
In the play Trifles, Susan Glaspell creates a situation that at first glance appears to place a woman at fault, but as the readers continue, he/she realizes that the truth is the opposite to what it appears to be. It is interesting to see how the author uses the image of a perfect husband to portray irony with the hidden theme of isolation and patriarchy within their domestic relationship. This irony leads into Minnie Foster, also called Mrs. Wright, to use the idea of justice vs. law within this tragi-comedy. Minnie Foster used to be a happy, young girl who use to sing in a choir. She met a farmer, with a reputation for being a good, responsible, hardworking man, named John Wrights, who later became her husband. After their marriage, herâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦His wife does nothing about his actions to protect his reputation, which gives him more pride and power in his wrong acts. Female identity was obviously not respected within Mr. and Mrs. Wrightââ¬â¢s marriage. In this case, Mr. Wright just completely forbade her from doing anything. Mr. Wright takes away his wifeââ¬â¢s dignity, leading her to feel fed up and seek for her justice. Different forms of solidarity were portrayed by both genders in this tragic comedy. While Mrs. Wright was imprisoned for being found as the main suspect in the criminal investigation, all men in her case just followed the law, not willing on understanding why she committed this murder. Mrs. Wright had a pet canary. This was the only spirit and hope; they both loved to sing and that was the only thing that gave her happiness. She was trapped unhappily in her marriage just as the bird was when it was caged. Mr. Wright killed his wifeââ¬â¢s canary, like always not caring about her interests. Now, that he destroyed the only two things that loved: singing, and her bird, Mrs. Wright revolted by destroying his life just how he did to herself. Mrs. Peter and Mrs. Hale were the only ones who understood why she committed this murder against her husband and forgave her for it because they believed she was justified. Therefore, they did right by going against the law. Music Essay Thesis Example For Students
Music Essay Thesis Music has always been a voice for the ages. It is one universal language that we all speak. Most people use it to express what they are feeling, some people use it to relate to, everyone enjoys it in one way or another. Thats where my point comes in; there is no doubt that music has changed according to the changes in society. My generations music censorship has changed, the way music is conveyed and the lenience of the music has allowed for the stories being told through the music to change and the depth of the music and the implications of the music to diversify . Music today is a genuine combination of yesterdays music with an original spin. This hat makes our music worth listening to. One of the defining changes would be that a large percentage of students ages fourteen through seventeen say that Rap and Hip/ Hop are the kind of music they listen to due to its sudden popularity and admiration of mainstream music. Not only that but, it has broken barriers for censorship in Rap music. Rap music has had little impact from the use of censorship because the artists have not yet been impaired by it. The need for cleaner rap music has arisen ND left a very small dent in the rap world. The degrading words and phrases and the explicit language may or may not stay within the culture of rap music may change to fill the need for cleaner music, but for now rap is still rap. (Helium. Com/Cody Kibble-Author/How Censorship Has Changed Rap Music). Rap and Hip/Hop music will always be controversial because of the paths these artists have walked. The stories being told and the emotional ride listeners are taken on are supposed to be raw first- hand accounts of these rappers and artists lives. To put a censorship on the truth is unsustainable since the truth always comes out.. Mine has been under scrutiny for his vulgar language and graphic stories being expressed in his songs since the beginning of his mega stardom. The fact of the matter is that he has a huge fan base with a diverse age group and it makes parents everywhere cringe. Censorship was born on parental concern . Many people believe rap is too graphic with a lot of unnecessary profanity. Parts of society will go far as to say that these rappers and artists are abusing their rights. There was once something called Common Decency that has disappeared. I think that those persons who may lack common decency have found a perfect shield to hide behind and they call it Freedom of Speech. (Helium. Com/Peggy Mallory-Author/Censorship in the Music Industry in the U. S. ). Although Freedom of Speech does provide the perfect shield for rap artists to hide behind, I also think that it serves as the perfect defense. The ver y definition of freedom is the power to determine action without restraint. This amendment was formed to let the people freely express their beliefs, ideas, and stories. The fact that censorship in rap music has changed as much as it has allows for different estimation to be shared and different walks of life to be exposed to the fans. Furthermore, people everywhere are starting to realize Just that. In fifty years music has gone from do-whoppers with nerdy glasses and suits, to artists of today having almost complete freedom of expression. (Helium. Com/David Thatches-Author/How American Music Has Changed Over the Last Fifty Years. This broadened our insights on the struggles the members of our community and generation go through all the Music Essay By wantons amounts of people who disagree with what rap music has to say. The truth isnt always pleasant though, and neither is all Rap Music. Music is the binding agent and bridge to the feelings that are unclear. It seems to be too good to be true that were able to use music as a tool. Theres something about a voice thats personal, not unlike the particular odor or shape of a given human body. .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74 , .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74 .postImageUrl , .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74 , .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74:hover , .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74:visited , .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74:active { border:0!important; } .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74:active , .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74 .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u6d25af94256be806b2645ed135bc5c74:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Music and Teenagers EssaySummoned through the belly, hammered into form by the throat, given propulsion by bellows of lungs, teased into final form by tongue and lips, a vocal is a kind of audible kiss, a blurted confession, a soul-burp you really cant keep from issuing as you make your way wrought the material world (Expert from Jonathan Lathes intro to the Greatest Singers of All Time featured in the November 27,2008 issue of Rolling Stone Magazine). Music deciphers confused moods and feelings, the different genres attribute to feelings, thoughts, and moods for those next three minutes and twenty- six seconds. Music today has gone from stories about fun and problem-free tunes to the seedy underbelly that has always existed in our society that is now being made into realistic renditions of what Americas youth is going through. For the music rises from a generation that feels with some Justice that they have been betrayed by those who came before them, that they are best tolerated in schools, feared on the streets, and almost inevitably destined for the hellholes of prison. They grew up hated, hungry, and unloved. And this is the psychic fuel that seems to generate the anger that seems endemic in much of music and property. (Treacherousness. Com/Miami ABA Kamala-Activist). Miami ABA Kamala has had his share of life stories. With a history of activism, radio Journalism, and even being an involved member of the Black Panthers. Whether it be a life of brutality and mistreatment or the way love and life can change someone forever. Everyone is either a disheveled soul with an intense personal his tory and a story to tell or someone Just wanting a good beat and fun rhythm to dance to Most underground rappers and mainstream rappers, if theyre lucky, can relate to what Miami ABA Kamala had to say. It is easy to talk down on mainstream music because it is shallow bubble gum-pop that takes little to no brain power to comprehend. Many of the critics of this very topic chose to ignore this. What strikes me odd is that when people talk about modern day music is their refusal to take historical context, and the evolving economics of the music industry into account. (Helium. Com/Tom Windward- Author/Search For the Meaning of Modern Day Music). A lot of todays music is altered to the specifications of the industry in order to make money. Music that we hear on the radio and see on television is what is known as mainstream. The industry does this ultimately to sell the artist. The music played is made to speak to the masses, which, in turn, means it is easy to understand. It is human condition and a common human endeavor to make music deep and to make music shallow. There is no predominance of shallow music. It is Just that the shallow stuff is easier for the profit makes to broadcast more often and it is easier to incorporate and remember. (Helium. Come Elizabeth M. Young-Author/ Music is Losing Its Depth). This is a key point in this argument. My generations music is Judged by the mainstream artists when there is so much more going on. Maybe though, the gems in the rough are better off left there. Most of the time, artists are changed into a ND more teen and pop idols out of the Indies scene and into the big times, which unfortunately, created a loss in depth in the music itself but a significant increase in profit. (Helium. Com/Cayman Persisting -Author/Music is Losing Its Depth). The wonderful truth of the music and youth demographic is that there are different genres. Conclusively meaning, a different fan base. A band by the name of Uniform and Sons has made the Billboards Top 100 List recently, and they couldnt be further from artists like Eke$ha, Wiz Kalmia, and Kathy Perry, Since they formed in December 007, the members of Uniform ; Sons have shared a common purpose: to make music that matters, without taking themselves too seriously. Four young men from West London in their early twenties, they have fire in their bellies, romance in their hearts, and rapture in their masterful, melancholy voices. (mummifications. Com). This band is living proof that, in order to be successful, you do not have to be on the conveyor belt that seemingly is the music industry today. Their lyrics are easy to empathic and it is rendered differently from a lot of the other artists on the charts today. The need for the constant change in our environment, has shortened our attention span to the point that learning anything in depth, is a struggle that only the most de termined learner would undertake. (Helium. Mom/Steve Burden-Author/Music is Losing Its Depth). Music does not have to be a challenge to understand. Even though, the more obscure bands could be considered weird, what matters is that theyre there. It is able to balance out the bubble gum pop and the original music that my generation still has to offer. The music the youth of today is listening to and making is an infusion of music from sat generations and rhythms and sounds of this generation. The difference between yesterday and today are the stories. .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e , .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e .postImageUrl , .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e , .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e:hover , .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e:visited , .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e:active { border:0!important; } .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e:active , .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9a5f13d6b5c537144732ce981a52897e:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Bob Marley EssayThe stories have changed because censorship is more complaisant with the lyrics and has taken note that the truth is powerful and to bind expression with such boundaries would limit the voice of the people. The Catcher in the Rye: Holdens Insight About Lif Essay e and WorldThe Catcher in the Rye: Holdens Insight About Life and WorldThe book Catcher in the Rye tells of Holden Caulfields insight about life andthe world around him. Holden shares many of his opinions about people and leadsthe reader on a 5 day visit into his mind. Holden, throughout the book, madeother people feel inferior to his own. I can relate to this because although Ido not view people inferior to myself, I do judge others unequally. Holden and Iboth have similar judgements of people from the way they act and behave. We alsoshare feelings about motivation as well as lack of it. After reading this book,I came to the conclusion that Holden and I are much more similar than Iinitially believed. We will write a custom essay on The Catcher in the Rye: Holdens Insight About Lif specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now Holden portrayed others to be inferior to his own kind all throughout the book. He made several references as to how people arent as perfect as he was. Thereason he Stradlater fixed himself up to look good was because he was madly inlove with himself. (pg. 27) Holden had an inferiority complex. He was afraid ofnot having any special talents or abilities and used other methods to make himout to be a rough tough boy. Boy, I sat at that goddam bar till around oneoclock or so, getting drunk as a bastard. I could hardly see straight. (pg. 150) Holden tried all he could to fit in. He drank, cursed and criticized lifein general to make it seem he was very knowing of these habits. I myself havefound me doing this at times, also. I, at times, feel the need to fit in to agroup and do things similar to what others do in order to gain acceptance bythem. I smoked a cigar once with two friends of mine because they kept going onand on about how great cigars were, but that was only once. Holden and I bothplace people on levels other than our own for amount of knowledge and likenessto ourselves. Holden used the term phonies to describe more than a few people in this book. He used the term to be what a person is if they dont act naturally and followother peoples manners and grace. Holden didnt like phonies, he thought of themas if they were trying to show off. He didnt like it when they showed offbecause it seemed so fake and unnatural every time they would do so. At the end of the first act we went out with allthe other jerks for a cigarette. What a deal thatwas. You never saw so many phonies in all your life, everybody smoking their ears off and talking aboutthe play so that everybody could hear how sharp theywere. (pg. 126)I know many people like this as well. I do not like phonies either. I have manyfriends who talk using full vocabulary just to try to impress you, and otherswho make note of everything they see to show you how perceptible they are. People do this when they have a fear of their own individuality and feel thatthey need to ace different to get people to like them. Holden and I both dislikephonies. We do not like people who take on roles of others to seem more likeablebecause they are insecure. Throughout the book Holden displays a lack of motivation for many things inwhich he should do. Holden couldnt even call up an old girlfriend whom he knewa long time ago. But when I got inside this phone booth, Iwasnt much in the mood any more to give oldJane a buzz. (Pg. 150)Holden also had a problem getting his motivation together in order to completeschoolwork and succeed in his prep school. I have similar problems with mymotivation and find at times I must be in the mood to do something in order forme to accomplish it. This stems from our experience in the past being that wecan get through life, or the part weve been through already, with minimaleffort. Holden has had this opportunity to notice this as his parents have beenshuffling him around to different schools every time he flunks. He feels hisparents will be there to move him somewhere else and take care of him every

Writing Sample - Describing a Place
Writing Sample - Describing a PlaceA descriptive essay about a place that someone has lived is not too difficult. This is the same for a descriptive essay about a place that someone has visited or an essay about a place that has been mentioned in a book or newspaper article. You may have some difficulty getting a specific location to describe if it is a vague one.One thing to keep in mind when writing a descriptive essay about a place is that the more personal you make it, the more likely that it will stick in the reader's mind. It helps to use facts that are related to the geographic location to get ideas flowing. Then add your personal observations and insights from within the location. Since you can write as fast as you like, you should plan on having a rough draft before you turn it in to someone else. The first thing to consider when writing a descriptive essay about a place is how to get your reader's attention in the first paragraph. Many people write about a place without desc ribing it in the first sentence. This is not a good way to go. A descriptive essay about a place should get the reader's attention. Your first paragraph should provide the reader with enough information to get them excited about your location.Once you have written a few sentences about your location, you should then include a brief introduction to it. This is not necessary to be long, but it does need to be fairly short and simple. This gives the reader the knowledge they need to read further. After you have included some basic facts about your location, you should have something to say about it in the next paragraph. If you have read the first paragraph carefully, you should notice that you have the appropriate information to discuss your location. Now is the time to make your observations and thoughts about your location.Be sure to read your paragraph a few times to make sure that the wording is clear. Use some vocabulary words that are easy to remember, but don't always use tradit ional English. Your topic may require it though. The last paragraph in a descriptive essay about a place should contain the most descriptive of the whole essay. It needs to be the best of the whole article. Don't skimp on the big picture so that your readers can feel that they got more than what they needed, just make sure that you have given them a lot of information about your location. This is a writing sample of what is needed in order to write a descriptive essay about a place. A good place to start would be describing a place by using words that are commonly used by your readers. Using the right words will also help you in improving your skills at this.

Free Essays on The Fight For Woman Suffrage
The Fight for Woman Suffrage From the late 1840ââ¬â¢s all the way up until 1920, women across the nation aggressively fought for their right to vote. As time progressed, the requests and/or demands of women supporting the cause changed dramatically and spawned numerous distinct womenââ¬â¢s groups and clubs. By 1890, large groups of women emerged out of their private lives seeking to actively participate in the public world. These women were no longer content letting their husbands have all the fun out there in the real world. Huge numbers of women sought the same rights and privileges that their husbands possessed merely because they were men. To many women, the right to vote was a privilege of utmost importance. That same year, the previously split National Woman Suffrage Association and American Woman Suffrage Association merged to form the more moderate, middle-of-the-road National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA). This merge was an attempt to take full advantage of womenââ¬â¢s newfound desire for social activism and group as many women as was possible into one single association. The NAWSA organized formal political conventions and was far more professional than the previous divergent groups. The now defunct NWSA aggressively fought for a federal amendment for suffrage, whereas the old AWSA chose to go state by state to gain suffrage. The NAWSA also decided to drop efforts to fight for an out-of-reach federal amendment and instead diligently worked on campaigning in the states. The beginning of the NAWSAââ¬â¢s state campaigning seemed to be a disappointing failure. But in this time, the womenââ¬â¢s suffrage movement experienced growing membership numbers, new and improved leadership, and a change in argument. Though suffragists were never very powerful in the South, as membership increased, the NAWSA attained a substantial group of southern leaders. The surfacing of other womenââ¬â¢s groups brought to the table... A Plan to Decrease the Dropout Rate among School Students
A Plan to Decrease the Dropout Rate among School Students SCENERIO ABC High School has seen a dramatic increase in the number of students who are choosing to drop out of school over the past decade. The reasons are limitless. They range from failure to identify students who may be at risk of dropping out, to inadequate academic programming to accommodate at risk students, to lack of parental concern and involvement. Therefore, the Academic Council has developed a comprehensive plan that will address the issue of the student dropout rate and provide goals and actions to take to decrease the dropout rate among our high school students. For the purpose of this writing, dropout rate is defined as the rate at which students withdraw from school during grades nine through twelve and who do not attain a General Education Degree (GED). In several of the largest school systems across the country half of the students are dropping out (Thomas and Date, 2006). Some of the contributing factors to this increase are a lack of appropriate measures to identify students who may be at risk of dropping out, a lack of adequate and appropriate programs that will foster academic achievement for at-risk high school students, and a failure to educate parents on the importance of their participation in the education process of their child. What events have occurred over the past decade that affected the dropout rate? There are less stringent consequences for students who do not attend school, as well for parents who do not actively participate in the educational progress of their child. There is a decrease in parental involvement, due in part to mothers returning to the workforce. There is an increase in the occurrence of teen pregnancy and teen parenthood.
